Dübelfräse

🇬🇧 English version

Was ist möglich?

English version

With our Festool DOMINO DF 500 you can join wooden parts firmly and precisely, without screws or visible fittings. The joiner cuts mortises for flat DOMINO tenons in wood and wood-based materials. The cutter rotates and oscillates from side to side, so instead of a round hole it cuts an elongated mortise. You cut a mortise at the same position in both parts, glue in the tenon and fit the parts together – ideal for furniture, shelves, frames and stands.

Only trained users may operate the joiner on their own. Please read the notes on safety, materials and operation before your training:

Festool DOMINO joiner instructions (PDF, in German)

What can you do?

  • Corner, T and edge-to-edge joints for panels, frames and stands
  • Mitres and angled joints: the fence tilts from 0° to 90°
  • DOMINO tenons from 4 × 20 mm to 10 × 50 mm, matched to the material thickness
  • Three mortise widths (tight, medium, wide): the first mortise fixes the position, the others leave some play to compensate for small marking errors

Materials

You can mill solid wood and wood-based panels such as chipboard, MDF and plywood. Metal, plastic, stone and material with nails, screws or staples in the cutting area are not allowed. Hardwood dust is harmful to your health, so always work with dust extraction. See the instructions (in German) for details.

Preparing your project

Plan which parts you want to join and which tenon size fits. As a rule of thumb, the tenon is about one third as thick as the material, for example a 6 mm tenon for 19 mm boards. Lay out both parts the way they will fit together, mark the position of each tenon with a pencil line across the joint and mark the face sides. You will need clamps or the multifunction table to hold the workpiece. Ask the supervisors which cutters and tenons you need and what is available at the FabLab.
